    Description

    1932 KEENEY & SON
    S 1¢ S
    TEEPLECHASE
    HORSE RACE TRADE SIMULATOR GAME
Available for purchase is a countertop arcade machine manufactured by Keeney & Sons Inc. in Chicago, Illinois.  This trade simulator machine is titled "Steeplechase" and was marketed circa 1935.  When functioning properly, the machine is operated by depositing a penny, then pulling the side lever down to raise 6 colored marbles that represent racehorses.  Prior to releasing the marbles, game participants try to predict the finish order of the colored marbles as they roll down the track, changing positions as they go.  If a marble gets stuck, it denotes a rider falling off his horse, which disqualifies the rider.
The interior graphics board depicts an outdoor racing scene with fence and ditch obstacles, even a gallery of spectators.  There are metal rails along the edges of the ramps to guide the marbles.  The game is housed in a wood cabinet with a dark finish (not sure what type of wood).  It has a glass front and a coin slot on top.  The wooden back has a lock (key included).  The inside mechanism is mostly intact but currently not functional.  You are buying this machine "as is" for parts or restoration with no returns.  It stands about 17 1/2" tall and measures approximately 14" wide and 8 1/2" deep.  I purchased this trade simulator game at a recent estate sale.
Condition of this Steeplechase arcade game is FAIR.  Cosmetically, the interior graphics look quite nice.  The wooden cabinet has some splits on the sides and base.  The back board and lock appear to be replacements.  The coin slot is original but painted orange and is missing the front screw.  The glass has a few surface flakes in the upper right corner of the front panel.
Functionally, this machine shouldn't be too difficult to restore into working condition.  A mechanism is tripped when a coin is dropped, but something appears to be missing that attaches to the lever that releases the balls into the tray.  Also, the chain that raises and lowers the marble tray doesn't appear to be long enough to retrieve the released marbles.  I'm not sure what parts are missing or need replacement.  Please take a close look at the many photos I've provided and judge condition for yourself.
If you collect vintage arcade machines or trade simulators, don't miss your opportunity to purchase this offering.  My BUY IT NOW price of only ,249 is a bargain, even considering that it needs some restoration work.  So buy this machine now before someone else beats you to the deal!
