Description
** This listing is for two duck head blanks. I showed all six pieces in the photos so you can see what you might get. **UPDATE: Only the poplar set is still available. All of the butternut sets have been sold.
Do you have a rifle or shotgun you're especially proud of? Once carved, these two duck head carving blanks will not only look good in your home but will display your gun in a unique way. They could be attached to a board or plaque for mounting on a wall or they could be hung directly on a wall. The butt end of your rifle or shotgun rests on a duck's neck and the barrel slides through the other duck's neck that's curved around to its breast. These blanks are cut out of beautiful butternut wood which has a few random worm holes that will add character. I also have a set out of light-colored poplar (pictured). These pieces are heavier than the butternut. Let me know right after purchase if you would like the poplar set, otherwise I'll send butternut.
Each set comes with a pattern sheet for reference. At just under 2" thick, the pieces aren't quite the width of the pattern. The pieces measure approx. 4.5" x 3.5" across and 6 1/8" x 3.75" across. Three sets are available.
These could also hold anything else you can think of like a banner or curtain or maybe a quilt. Or, they could just be decorative without serving another purpose.
These blanks and the many others I'll be listing come from the estate of Gen Jansen, who has written several carving books and taught carving for many years in Minnesota and into other states. Gen was a member of the same carving club I belong to. Sadly, she passed away unexpectedly a couple of years ago. The other blanks I'll be listing cover a variety of subjects
including various animals, people, letter openers, pins, and many other things along with study sticks for eyes. Let me know if you're looking for something specific; I may have it!
