    Description

Offered is a antique wall plaque depicting Georges Ernest Jean-Marie Boulanger (1837 - 1891) - he was a French General and Politician who was popular during the Third Republic - he won a series of elections and was feared to be powerful enough to establish himself as dictator at the peak of his popularity in early 1889 - he promoted Revanchism which was an aggressive nationalism that opposed Germany and called for the defeat of the Franco-Prussian War (1870/71) to be avenged - Boulanger was Minister of War and served in office from January 7, 1886 through May 31, 1887
The plaque is well cast with excellent attention to detail - measures 6 1/2" in diameter - in very good overall condition with no chips/cracks/repairs - there is some finish wear, surface scratches on one side
